Nevada Question 6, the Right to Abortion Initiative
A “yes” vote supports providing for a state constitutional right to an abortion, providing for the state to regulate abortion after fetal viability, except where medically indicated to “protect the life or health of the pregnant patient.”
A “no” vote opposes providing for a state constitutional right to an abortion, providing for the state to regulate abortion after fetal viability, except where medically indicated to “protect the life or health of the pregnant patient.”
In Nevada, initiated constitutional amendments need to be approved in two even-numbered election years, meaning that Question 6 needs to be approved in 2024 and 2026 to amend the Nevada Constitution. As Question 6 was approved in 2024, a second vote will be held on November 3, 2026.

Who be spittin’ lies?
In the many Facebook and NextDoor arguments I’m reading for and against Question 6 on the ballot this year, I keep seeing the claims this measure would allow anyone to perform abortions, and that parents will be blocked from access to their minor children who seek abortions. I did a little research and found a trail of bullshit that led to a man named Jason Guinasso.

Hey, I know that name!
Jason Guinasso’s name still gives me a little twitch when I hear or read it anywhere. He and I met on the battlefield when he was leading an army of misinformed church Karens to storm the gates of legal brothels, where I happened to be clocking in every morning.
The first time we met, I was sitting in a pew at Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley, holding my phone high to record and broadcast the “town hall meeting” as it was advertised. My then boss, the late Dennis Hof mentioned it to me that day, saying maybe I should check it out on the way home from work, so I did.
Upon arrival, they had a woman at a table to greet us at the entrance. To gain access to the show, we had to sign something that looked an awful lot like a petition. When asked, the nice lady assured me it wasn’t that, so I scribbled “Your Mom,” or something like that, and made my way in.
The main host of the presentation at Calvary Chapel was a lawyer named Jason Guinasso.
The “town hall” started off with some speeches from the lead pastor about the evils of brothels and falsely connected them to human trafficking. Then the following speech was from the now former sheriff who shared a story about how he hated brothels because his wife ran off to an illegal one when he was in the Marines. A woman, who I cannot remember the name of now, made a speech about her experience with human trafficking, which also had no connection to anything going on in Mound House.
I put on my keyboard warrior battle armor and looked up this Guinasso guy. He was active on Twitter. He had previously run for Assembly, just as my boss was doing at this time. He was also a preacher. I found trolling him on social media to be quite amusing. By the time we finally met in person at a County Commissioner meeting, he saw my face and greeted me by name.
Guinasso’s No Little Girl campaign flopped. Nobody bought the lies that regulated legal brothels were connected to human trafficking, or that any of my coworkers were “modern-day slaves”. The sheriff also lost his job for his involvement.
I still think the only reason Guinasso showed up with the referendum, was because his boss had some buddies in Nye County who weren’t happy about Dennis Hof running for Assembly down there, so they targeted his businesses. I’m sure the fact Hof died the night of his birthday party (also down there) right after winning the primary, had nothing to do with any of that.
He’s baaack!
Guinasso’s PAC, The Coalition for Parents and Children PAC was formed specifically to fight Question 6. He’s arguing that because the ballot text does not explicitly restrict the definition to licensed doctors, it opens the door for non-physicians, even chiropractors or nurses, to legally perform abortions in Nevada.
The truth: Only professionals explicitly licensed and authorized by the state to provide reproductive care can do so. Question 6 does not grant general medical professionals the right to perform procedures outside their narrow, state-regulated licensing.
Guinasso also came up with the argument that a fundamental constitutional right to reproductive freedom would strip parents of their rights, claiming the amendment would nullify any ability for the state to enforce parental notification or consent laws, which would let minors get abortions in secret.
The truth: Nevada has a parental notification law on the books from 1985, but it has been blocked by a federal court injunction for decades and is completely unenforceable under current law. Therefore, Question 6 does not strip away an active parental notification requirement, because none currently exists in practice.
Under constitutional law, states can still enforce reasonable regulations regarding minors (such as parental involvement) even when a constitutional right exists, provided the regulation does not impose an “undue burden.”

So once again, Jason Guinasso is showing up to stir up the churches gullible enough to participate, spreading misinformation for the purpose of advancing Evangelical ideology into our government. To his credit, I really do believe he cares about victims of human trafficking and sex crimes, and I’m sure he’s done some real good in that field. I certainly don’t hate him, nor do I think he is a bad person. That being said, he is a liar. He lied to go after Hof, just like he’s lying to get people to vote no on Question 6.
