Call me the Public Information Outlaw

12/4/25

PhilWooley.com – it’s not about me.

Don’t let the title of this website fool you. While there are some about me links buried at the bottom of each page, I’m simply not interesting enough to build an entire website around my personal shenanigans.

The main focus of this here section of the world wide web is to serve as a resource for my fellow citizens of Lyon County. Our local government falls short on practical, easy to find information, so I’m sliding in to fill some gaps.

Someone is asking every hour on Facebook and NextDoor for recommendations for something local. I started small with the business directory, intending to add more places and categories each week.

While I am not a religious person, I understand the significance of worship and fellowship for those who are. Browse this directory to find your people!

I’ve been to a few county meetings, including some for citizen advisory boards. Heck, I even ran for County Commissioner once! I found it a little difficult to locate all the information, minutes, and agendas for public meetings, which may explain the obvious lack of public participation.

I made this page which even contains links to Secretary of State filings, telling us who funds the campaigns of our elected officials.

Let’s face it: It can get a little boring around here, unless you know where to go. Whether you want to hike a trail, or party at the cat house, I’m working to pack this directory full of information and links to everything possible. More fun added every week!

Cops, firefighters and human service links are my starting point here. As I progress, I’ll add more specialized public services.

Regularly digging through IRS records for registered nonprofits in Lyon County, I research each one to find their websites, social media, and contact information. I then sort them by category.

This is a great resource for those looking to make tax deductible donations, or even for y’all rascals in need of community service hours.

Basic information and links for all Lyon County public schools.

Did you know that senior centers are the cheapest place in town to get a good lunch? They also have crafts, exercise classes and more.

Who you gonna call about that horse on the highway? How about the bear on your trampoline?

Do you want to hunt legally?

Also featured, is my critter identification where I’ve provided visual references of the various varmints we have crawling around. Of course, the main questions you all have, “Will it bite?” and “If it does, is it poisonous?” are answered here, along with the links to more in-depth information.

You are here!

In the past, I’ve used this blog as a place to vent, complain, and sometimes dream out-loud. There have been a couple loyal readers out there, some of which even dropped some coin into my Patreon while I had that.

Moving forward, I want to shift my efforts away from my personal diary, and more toward useful, practical knowledge to benefit the lives of my readers.

If you really want to learn more about this silly little Phil animal, I’ve provided a brief backstory. There have been a few interesting events in my timeline you may find interesting.

Perhaps someday, I will sell out, plastering affiliate advertising for weight loss pills and male enhancement in pop-ups all over my site. Until then, I’ll keep a “Tips” [PayPal] link at the bottom for any thoughtful folks who find my stuff useful.

Totally honest here: I just barely pulled off everything you see here. Many late nights were spent banging away on this project with the idea it would somehow, someday lead to a full-time gig. I daydream about spending my days exploring every inch of Lyon County and sharing my findings here for you all. I want to walk all the trails, eat all the things, and meet every shop owner and nonprofit crew. I’d even be wiling to worship with all the different churches, or test out some tattoo artists!

Meanwhile, back in the real world…

I’ve been writing this entire blog entry in my planner, as I wait for a large format printer to produce posters and signs for my day job.

Speaking of which, the printer is done, so I must close the planner and make room on the cutting table.

Stay tuned for more!
