Lyon County Animal Services

Adoption fees:

  • Male dogs- $135
  • Female dogs-$175

Those fees include the dog’s spay/neuter, vaccinations (rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo), microchip, and 1 year license to Lyon County residents outside the city limits of Fernley and Yerington.

If a dog was brought into the shelter already spayed/neutered (proof was provided) or was a returned adoption, that dog’s adoption fee is $50.

Waiting List

As for dogs in the county that need to be surrendered, there is a waiting list. The wait list as of right now is about a month and a half to 2 months out. They recommend calling in advance to be put on the list if there is a possibility of needing to surrender your dog. They do try to talk to people and educate them on maybe keeping their dog(s) and giving out services that may be able to assist, such as low cost spaying and neutering, pet food help, low cost vaccines, etc. It is a $40 surrender fee.

Low Cost Vaccine Clinics

LCAS holds a low cost vaccine clinic every other month at the shelter. It is on a Saturday from 11-4pm. They do dog and cat vaccines at $15 per vaccine. They offer DAPPv (distemper/parvo) and bordetella for dogs and the HCP (calici, rhino and panleuk) for cats. They offer rabies and microchipping for both cats and dogs as well. They post an events on their facebook page usually 3 weeks to a month before our next clinic.

We welcome volunteers 16 years of age and older! However, people under 18 years of age are not allowed to socialize with the animals but could help out around the shelter doing other things, such as cleaning. We will also take community service workers as well but only for moving violations (traffic citations, DUI).
