Lyon County’s Public Information Outlaw

Cole Mortensen

For County Commissioner District 5

My platform:

Hello, my name is Cole Mortensen, and I am a longtime Lyon County resident with generations of family roots in this community. My wife and I are raising our two daughters in Smith Valley, and I understand firsthand the values, challenges, and opportunities facing rural Nevada families.

Throughout my career, I have managed multiple major infrastructure projects exceeding $100 million and helped lead teams responsible for delivering more than $10 billion in public improvements across Nevada.

As Assistant Director of Engineering and later Executive Deputy Director, I oversaw not only engineering and transportation programs, but also financial management, accounting, contracts, human resources, communications, civil rights compliance, and internal audits. My experience goes far beyond theory or titles. Itโ€™s grounded in managing budgets, solving complex problems, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and transparently.

I have presented before nearly every major governing body in Nevada, including city councils, county commissions, the Legislature, the Governorโ€™s Office, and the Board of Examiners. I understand the importance of listening to the public and have participated in hundreds of community meetings to keep residents informed and involved.

Most importantly, I understand the importance of protecting Lyon Countyโ€™s rural lifestyle while planning responsibly for future growth, supporting rural healthcare, and ensuring government remains transparent, fair, and accountable to the people it serves.
