Lyon County’s Public Information Outlaw

Tim Shaffer

For Sheriff

My platform:

Hello, my name is Tim Shaffer. I am seeking the elected office of Lyon County Sheriff

I am running for Lyon County Sheriff because I truly believe we can do better. And when I say โ€œwe,โ€ I mean both the Sheriffโ€™s Office and the community working together to provide better service, stronger partnerships, and real accountability to the citizens of Lyon County.

I will lead with integrity: a firm and consistent commitment to honesty, strong moral and ethical principles, sincerity, accountability, and professionalism. Transparency will also be a priority for me. The community deserves to know not only the successes within the Sheriffโ€™s Office, but also the challenges we face and how we plan to address them.

I believe strong community partnerships are the foundation of effective law enforcement. By working together with citizens, local organizations, schools, and mental health professionals, we can improve outcomes in ways we have not fully achieved before. Collaboration builds trust, and trust strengthens public safety.

One area I believe deserves continued focus is mental health response. Law enforcement today is about more than just making arrests. Deputies are increasingly responding to people in crisis who need help, guidance, and resources. I support expanding programs like the MOST Team and other community-based efforts that connect people with the services they need while still ensuring accountability when necessary. These programs allow deputies to focus on criminal activity while trained professionals assist with crisis intervention and long-term support.

Training is another major priority for me. Lyon County already has some of the finest deputies anywhere, and we should continue investing in them. By increasing specialized and advanced training opportunities, both in-house and in-person, we can strengthen deputiesโ€™ skills, professionalism, and confidence in the field. Better training leads to better decision-making, stronger reports, stronger cases, and ultimately better outcomes for both law enforcement and the community.

I also want deputies to feel valued and invested in the Sheriffโ€™s Office. Their voices matter. By listening to their concerns, recognizing their hard work, and supporting their professional goals, we can build a stronger, more motivated team that takes pride in serving Lyon County.

Just as importantly, we must take care of the men and women behind the badge. Law enforcement officers face stressful, traumatic, and emotionally difficult situations on a regular basis. Too often, those struggles are carried silently. We need real support systems and wellness programs that give deputies and their families the resources they need to stay healthy, recover from difficult experiences, and remain strong both personally and professionally.

Together, we can build a Sheriffโ€™s Office that is stronger, more transparent, more accountable, and more connected to the community it serves. I believe Lyon County deserves leadership that listens, works hard, and never stops striving to improve.

I would be honored to earn your trust and your vote for Lyon County Sheriff
